Sunday, 2:26 PM. Jardin du Luxembourg. Two green chairs have just freed up in the sun—a rare enough event to instantly abandon any thought of a walk. A newspaper under the arm, a coffee still hot, and the Chylak resting on the chair next to me. For once, there is no rush.
Founded in Warsaw by Zofia Chylak, the Polish brand made its name through leather goods that masterfully balance the classic with the singular. Structured bags, subtly retro shapes, smooth or embossed leathers, graphic clasps: the designs are conceived in Warsaw and crafted in Poland in limited, numbered editions, primarily using Italian leathers.
Yet behind this highly contemporary allure lies a far more intimate connection to Polish heritage. With Chylak Heritage, Zofia Chylak draws on regional craftsmanship, some of which is on the verge of vanishing: bobbin lace from Bobowa, amber from Kurpie, traditional weaving from Podlasie. Rather than treating them as folklore, she weaves them into the vocabulary of the modern wardrobe.
Favorites… The chałka, a braided Polish brioche, the sękacz, a traditional spit cake, and the folkloric rooster are reimagined as jewelry, pendants, or delicate accents.
