Touch wood. Wear Alhaja.
Founded in 2020 by María and Irene, Alhaja draws from the Mediterranean, folklore, and ancient cultures, crafting jewelry as small contemporary relics.
Founded in 2020 by María and Irene, two friends who describe themselves as "sisters from another life," Alhaja is a Spanish jewelry house that digs deep into Mediterranean symbols, superstitions, and folklore, breathing new life into old treasures.
Its name sets the tone: alhaja, derived from Arabic, is a Spanish word for a jewel, a precious thing. After spending over fifteen years together in design and buying, the two founders draw from their travels, their memories, and their grandmothers' jewelry boxes to build their own signature repertoire. Freshwater pearls, semi-precious stones, sterling silver, and 18-karat gold-plated pieces are crafted mostly in Spain.
But at Alhaja, all eyes are on the charms dangling from the chains. Medusas, sacred hearts, protective eyes, Venuses, fish, and other talismans borrowed from Mediterranean cultures emerge collection after collection. In its journal, the brand explores the history of these motifs, tracing their meanings and travels from one ancient civilization to the next.
