Fredericia was founded in 1911 as a chair factory in the Danish city of the same name. In 1955, Andreas Graversen took over the company and turned to Børge Mogensen, whose philosophy of design "honest, pure, and unpretentious" would define the house's identity forever. The Spanish Chair (1958), the J39, nicknamed "the people's chair" (1947), became global icons. Alongside Mogensen, Hans J. Wegner and Nanna Ditzel. Today it is led by Rasmus Graversen, the third generation, who continues to invite major contemporary names, Barber & Osgerby, Jasper Morrison, Cecilie Manz, Maria Bruun. Still owned by the Graversen family, B Corp certified, with local production in Denmark.
