In 2017, Tom Murphy founded Make-Ready in a small South London workshop with just a single press. The studio grew rapidly, and by 2019, it became the specialized print workshop for Avant Arte, producing silkscreens for Ai Weiwei, George Condo, Alex Katz, Lee Ufan, and Mickalene Thomas.
The technical precision is such that George Condo—who had himself worked with Andy Warhol—considers the silkscreens crafted with Make-Ready to be the finest he has produced since that collaboration. Yet these complex editions can easily reach several hundred, or even several thousand pounds.
The goal: to make starting a collection possible, even before you have the budget of a seasoned collector. The very same studio produces archival pigment prints in larger editions, with pieces available starting at around £50.
The catalogue offers a curated mix of contemporary artists and masters of art history, from Hokusai to Matisse, Monet, and Van Gogh, with the option to order select pieces pre-framed.
