Kara Douwma founded Uncommon Ancestor on one conviction: furniture is not just an object; it keeps stories. Her Story Stools are custom stools and benches where the surface becomes a canvas, embroidered with illustrations inspired by flora, fauna, everyday objects, and each client's personal memories. Every piece begins with a conversation about what deserves to be remembered. The patterns draw from iconography across the centuries: Renaissance pomegranates, Rococo shells, Flemish vanitas. Everything is made in collaboration with London artisans.
