Bzzz. Change of plans. "Place des Vosges, 23:47. We're heading down into the underworld. Matthieu & Julie are already there. Are you coming with your gallerist, or your lover?" Drawn to the world of our favorite Parisian ringleader, Le Serpent à Plume was our sanctuary. On the agenda: a menagerie of aesthetes and eccentrics.
After the nights at Le Serpent à Plume, Rash clearly wants to see what Paris looks like in the morning. For Café du Canal, opened on rue Bichat in the summer of 2024, he envisions a haven for reformed night owls, even describing the project as "the more mature version" of himself. His initial concept leans toward the 1950s American diner. The finished decor blends light wood, mirrors, a pink neon sign, and the nostalgia of trendy 1980s bistros, with a massive work by Sam Szafran on the wall.
On the plate, the journey continues between French culture and Southwest American influences. Deli classics arrive in the 10th arrondissement: chicken soup with matzoh balls, latkes with crème fraîche, egg sandwich, followed by a menu that evolves with the seasons. Le Figaro also noted a lamb pie and an exceptionally moist carrot cake.
And since its owner remains a night owl at heart, the café doesn't stop at breakfast. Behind the bar: natural wines, Bullshots with vodka and beef broth, and Last Words with gin, maraschino, and Chartreuse. You can come for the latkes and stay for the cocktails, depending on the mood.
