If a child drew their dream chair, it would look like this.
Alfie di Trolio. Oculus. Set designer in London, vintage furniture dealer in a Camberwell loft, born during lockdown.
Alfie di Trolio began dealing vintage furniture during lockdown, "you can't make another soufflé, you can't go out for a walk again." What began with candlesticks and ceramics became Oculus, a selection of handmade pieces, imperfect, a little wonky, a little absurd. He looks for objects that provoke curiosity: "I wonder who made you. What were they doing? Were they in therapy?" From wrought iron to hatchet-cut wardrobes, functional pieces with something decorative and slightly mad. He works from a loft in an old brickworks in Camberwell, South London, and when a piece doesn't find a buyer, he keeps it and quietly marks it as unavailable.
