Beauty in the wake of "TikTok made me buy it": Olivia de Rothschild to the rescue.

A serum seen three times on TikTok, a cream recommended by a stranger, and suddenly twelve bottles crowd the sink. Olivia de Rothschild was eighteen when she first began dissecting formulas to help a teenage girl. She quickly discovered it took visits to seven different shops just to gather the right products. Oli’s Lab was born from this absurdity. Its mission: to select, analyze, and explain beauty before ever asking us to buy.

We are probably the first generation capable of pronouncing “niacinamide” before breakfast without really knowing what it does. TikTok taught us double cleansing, Instagram taught us to color-code our serums, and every new molecule seems to arrive with a waiting list.

The story of Oli’s Lab begins precisely with skin that nobody really knows how to treat. At 18, Olivia de Rothschild set out to help her mother’s friend’s teenage daughter, who was struggling with a skin condition. She began studying formulas, searching for what might work, and ended up having to visit about seven different shops just to assemble her selection. A simple question struck her: why has it become so complicated to simply take care of ourselves? Her mother suggested she write a business plan. Oli’s Lab would take two years to build.

The result lies somewhere between a beauty concept store and a decoding laboratory. The products on the platform are evaluated through a grading system developed by Oli’s Lab and backed by experts; a glossary explains the active ingredients and their functions; and an analyzer designed to dissect any ingredient list, alongside a personalized routine builder, are on the way. The selection is also fully verified for European safety and compliance.
