Jasmine Dowling, the graphic gesture as a way of life
The Australian designer turns brands into compositions of color. Her latest collab with The Dairy: a phone case dotted with plum spots that feels made to be worn like jewelry.
Jasmine Dowling is an Australian designer based in Brisbane. Since 2012, she has run Studio Jasmine, making color, paper, and printed matter her signature playground. Pen lettering, product photography, illustration, art direction: her multidisciplinary practice has led her to work for IMG Models, Nike Australia, Mecca Beauty, and David Jones, without ever losing that personal grammar in which color is treated as emotion, and composition as breath.
Her latest series is called Downpour. It was born from a rainy window, from hours spent watching colors dissolve, arranging bouquets to make them tremble, waiting for the exact moment when the image turns into painting.
That grammar slips into everyday objects. With The Dairy, the Australian tech-accessories brand, she designs cases for iPhone, Samsung, and AirPods. The Plum Polka Dot: cool blue, juicy plum, dotted with a constellation of polka dots.
