Secrets sometimes wear the color of honey. For Crystal Secrets, Paloceras dresses its Pebble in three translucent acetates—Honey, Amber, and Toffee—each limited to one hundred numbered pieces. Beneath the color, there is nothing to hide: the crystal acetate reveals the gold-plated details inside the frame. A rather indiscreet transparency for a collection that claims to keep secrets.
The story begins in the spring of 2023, inside a small ceramics studio in Mouraria, Lisbon. Alexis Perron-Corriveau and Mika Matikainen are experimenting with Metaballs—a Blender simulation tool where virtual volumes meet, swell, and merge. On screen, the result is exactly what they are looking for: eyewear that feels almost liquid. The first prototype, however, features such tiny apertures and so much transparent acetate that the sun’s rays stream generously into the eyes. A slight oversight for a pair of sunglasses.
It would take months of sketches, prototypes, and fine-tuning to make the illusion wearable. Gradually, the digital volumes morphed into these thick, rounded frames—crafted from Mazzucchelli cellulose acetate, heat-molded, and polished by hand. Pebble was finally launched in 2024.
Two years later, Paloceras decides to play with what these volumes can hold. Crystal Secrets reimagines Pebble in Honey, Amber, and Toffee—three warm, translucent shades, limited to just one hundred numbered pieces each. The DualLayer construction fuses two sheets of acetate: a rich honey, amber, or caramel outer shell, paired with a transparent crystal inner layer that deliberately reveals the gold-plated core wire. Depending on the light, the color deepens, and the normally hidden mechanics become an essential part of the design.
The campaign itself embraces this duality. Shot on a secluded island just off Helsinki, it features two characters who have slipped away to escape the city's noise. Yet the eyewear does the exact opposite: behind them, you hide, only to become more visible.
