Pauline Darris was only three years old when she began sketching bags in her carnets—a family obsession, perhaps, inherited from her great-grandmother who once created fashion engravings. By six or seven, she was begging for painting lessons, spending her Wednesdays as a little girl in a room full of retirees, learning how to truly look and draw. Years later, she specialized in accessories and leather, won a design competition hosted by Delage in 2012, and took an unexpected detour with Harley-Davidson, designing leather jackets. Her namesake brand first emerged in 2015, before Pauline chose to reinvent her house ten years later with a sharper vision of what she wanted to preserve: architectural lines, a signature graphic handle, full-grain Italian leathers, and craftsmanship rooted in Portugal.
Her inspiration often wanders far from the world of handbags, drawing instead from 1950s and 60s architecture, interior design, furniture, and tapestries. And as if history loved giving her a gentle push, her first permanent boutique arrived almost by chance. After hosting several pop-ups in the Marais, a customer came in to buy a bag and mentioned she owned a space on rue Caffarelli that was about to become available. Pauline visited, barely hesitated, spent a month renovating, and moved in.
