Amalie and Cecilie Moosgaard are twins from Denmark. Discovered as teenagers on their way home from a family shopping trip in Aarhus, they have worked and traveled the world together as models. In 2015, they made their runway debut for Prada, followed by shows for Valentino, Sacai, and Sonia Rykiel. Seeking balance and their own artistic direction, they found their signature aesthetic: Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, but off-duty in Copenhagen.
In late 2021, they stepped behind the scenes to launch LIÉ STUDIO in Copenhagen. Their debut collection consisted of just ten pieces of jewelry. Rather than chasing trends, the sisters rely on a daily uniform of vintage jeans, blazers, ballet flats or kitten heels, and a few versatile accessories. Sneakers? They once told Vogue they almost never wear them.
The beginning was far less calculated than their polished aesthetic suggests. The twins spent part of their first year building the brand from New York, a period Cecilie now describes with a single word: "naive." They lived day by day, never quite realizing what the brand could become. Just months after launching, wholesale demand brought them to Paris to meet with retailers. To mark their first anniversary, Cecilie walked down to a New York corner store to buy banana bread and a single candle shaped like a "1". A quiet moment to celebrate not just success, but the steady devotion that made it possible.
Within the business, the twins complement one another perfectly: Amalie brings the ideas; Cecilie structures them. Family is never far away—their grandmother's vintage clip-ons inspired a black onyx collection, and several pieces are named after the women in their lives. Since those first ten pieces, LIÉ has expanded into leather goods, eyewear, and a flagship boutique in Copenhagen.
Through it all, their creative North Star remains unchanged: Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy in the 1990s.
